The Story So Far

Anupama Subramanian has spent more than three decades as a journalist across print, television, and digital media. From the newsrooms of India Today and The Hindu to the studios of Zee Tamizh and Sun TV, her career has been defined by a singular passion: telling the stories of the people who make South Indian cinema.

Since 2005, she has served as Entertainment Editor at the Deccan Chronicle, Chennai, where she oversees all film and entertainment coverage. Her reviews, interviews, and long-form features are read by industry insiders and cinema lovers alike, known for their candour, depth, and the rare authority that comes from having watched an industry evolve over three decades.

Writing, editing, and television production are her forte. She has scripted and produced celebrity interview programmes for leading Tamil channels, anchored documentary series for Doordarshan, and conducted over a hundred in-depth conversations with India's most celebrated musicians and filmmakers for HMV India.

Her deep, longstanding relationships with Tamil cinema's who's who — from directors and actors to musicians and technicians — give her writing an intimacy and perspective that few can match.
